The youngest of ten children, Mary Lou Bennett was born Friday, July 18, 1924 just outside of Waycross, Georgia. She grew up in Orlando, Florida on an orange grove. Just after the start of WWII, she met a dashing young Air Force Lieutenant named Raymond. According to the story, Raymond's B-24 buzzed Mary Lou's house and from that point on she was smitten. It wasn't long before they married and were off to Boise, Idaho, where Raymond was a bombardier instructor. When the war ended, Raymond and Mary Lou located in Lafayette, where they were happily married for 54 years. They were blessed with five children, fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Mary Lou was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
