Dr. Hendry Allison was one of the first physicians to practice in Kingsville. He died at his home, Third and Henrietta. He came to Kingsville when the little town was one year old - in July 1905. Dr. Allison for more than a third of a century had maintained a standard of professional, personal, and civic life that won the esteem and affection of the people of Kingsville. When he was an infant his parents moved to Clark County, Indiana, a few miles from his birthplace in Jefferson County, Kentucky. He attended a country school where one teacher taught eight grades, then went to Jeffersonville High School for two years. He entered the University of Kentucky at the age of 16, receiving his B.A. and M.A. degrees there. He graduated in medicine at the University of Louisville and served his internship at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hosptial in the same city. After private practice as an assistant to a New York physician, he became a junior physician at the Manhattan State Hospital and later inspector for the health department of the City of New York. He decided to move to Texas and made the trip by boat from New York to Galveston. He spent six months in Valentine, and six months in Llano before he heard of the new town of Kingsville. He came to Kingsville to establish his practice. He married Miss Clara McLoud on 8 January 1915 in Kingsville. To this union were born three children - Hendry Allison, Jr, John Allison, and Margaret Allison. Dr. Allison was among the founders of the First Christian Church of Kingsville which was founded in September 1911. He served as elder and chairman of the official board of the church since its organization. Dr. Allison was past president of the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, served several years as a member of the school board, president of the first board of trustee of Kleberg County Hospital. He was president of the Kleberg County Medical Society and a member of the Lions Club. Services were held at the First Christian Church. Survived by his wife; children; one brother - Warren B. Allison; one sister - Mrs. R. Lee Bussabarger.
