Mr. Petersen was born at Rankin, Illinois, September 5, 1896, the son of Klemmen Petersen and his wife, Caroline nee Swensen. He moved to the Hardy community in 1905. On February 18, 1920, he was united in marriage with Elsie Petersen of Ruskin, Nebraska. Four children were born to this union: Mrs. Rex Sykes (Myrna) of Davenport, Nebraska; Wayne, who died at the age of four years; Virgil of Hardy, Nebraska; and Mrs. Eldon Eitzmann (Wilma) of Republic, Kansas.

He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1911.

Mr. and Mrs. Petersen lived on a farm north of Hardy until they moved to their home in Superior upon his retirement. Here he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for several years preceeding his illness.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie; three children; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; four sisters; Anna Nelson and Sena Martens, both of Hardy, Christie Anderson of Lincoln and Emma Jensen of Sidney; two brothers: Thomas of Hardy and Albert of Atwater, California; many other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances.
