John Harshfield was the son of Frederick and Abulan Hershfield. They came to America with one son Henry in 1761. They had another son Frederick a daughter Margaret and a possiable other son Martin. John was wed first to Elizabeth Ball in 1793, they had 7 sons and 1 daughter. John served in the war of 1812. He was a farmer. He and Henry and Martin moved to Ky in 1794. This is where all his children were born. After the passing of his first wife Elizabeth,he wed Rachel Welch Shoptaw widow of Thomas Shoptaw. They moved to Greene Co. In. in 1840 or so. This is where he passed away in 1858.
