Mrs. A. J. Newman Dies Sunday At Home Of Daughter
Mrs. Nellie Ann Newman, 83, a resident of Salida for 50 years, died at 10:50 a.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Scott, 414 East Second Street. At her bedside when she died were two other children, Mrs. Albert Crouse and Glenn T. Newman.
Mrs. Newman was born in Jacksonville, Ill., March 28, 1877. She was married to Albert John Newman in Winchester, Ill., in 1896 and came to Salida in 1911.
Born to this union are four children, Mrs. Fred Scott, Mrs. Albert Crouse, Glenn T. Newman, all of Salida, and Albert C. Newman of Oak Harbor, Washington. Also surviving are four grand-children, three great-grandchildren, two brothers, C.A. Rufus, Salem, Ill., three sisters, Mrs. Alice Willerton, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Frances Rhule; Jacksonville, Ill., and Mrs. Elizabeth Coker, Patterson, Illinois.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband, March 6, 1960.
The body will lie in state at the Steward Mortuary and services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday from the First Methodist church. Rev. W. O. Risinger will officiate.
