OBITUARY:
Chester Holdson
1927-2006
Mr. Chester W. Holdson, 78, of 111 Williams Ave., LaPorte, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 9:45 p.m. at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Sullivan County, Ind., to Otha and Zoie (Robinson) Holdson.
Mr. Holdson had retired from Teledyne Casting Service in 1991 after more than 29 years of service. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1945. He attended LaPorte Presbyterian Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having been stationed in Hawaii and Okinawa.
In 1945, he married Betty Rose Engle. In 1977 in LaPorte, he married Mary Louise Dix, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Caren (David) Herald of Anderson, Ind., Cathy McDonald of Budd Lake, N.J., Saralyn Locke of Schaumburg, Ill., Lisa (Carter) Locke Elenz of Long Beach, and Laura (Ken) Locke Hill of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons, Gary Locke and Brett (Sue) Locke, both of LaPorte; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
His parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at LaPorte Presbyterian Church with Rev. Louis Schumm officiating. Friends may call today at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 5 p.m. until the service. Private burial will take place at a later time in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
