First husband, and father of her two sons, was Ulrich Dahlgreen. They divorced and Ulrich was later found in census records with a new wife and more children. His two families never knew of each other.

Gerda eventually made her way from New York to Baltimore, MD and married Einar Johan Christensen who helped raise her boys, Sherman and Walter. Walter ran away at about age 16 and never returned home.

After the death of her second husband, Gerda moved in with her son Sherman and his wife Betty. Great-Grandma's bedroom was across the hall from Grandma & Grandpa's room. She always kept a bowl of candy on her night stand and when no one was around I would sneak into her room for a piece of candy.

Gerda was a member of the Eastern Star and spent her final years in Bonnie Blink. She never became a US citizen and her green card was given to the family when she passed, along with an envelope containing a Danish watch and gold chain. (All these items were passed on to her Great-Granddaughter, Carol Chakurda.) Everything else she had given away to her friends before she passed.
