Steven Paul Schmidtberger Sr. 1956 - 2009

Steven Paul Schmidtberger Sr., 52, of Great Bend, died Jan. 23, 2009 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita Kansas. Born July 15, 1956, in Great Bend, to Paul Frances Schmidtberger and Vera Marie Romme Schmidtberger.
Steven was a lifetime resident of Great Bend. He was a mechanic for Marmie Motors for 25 years and later worked for Great Bend Feeders.
He meet Dana Kaye Caruthers (b- August 21,1957) his senior year at Great Bend High School. They worked at the Drummer Boy Hamburger Restaurant together as well as going to the lake and to the drive in movies.
They where joined in Holy Matrimony at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church on August 23, 1974 by Father James Vogel Great Bend Barton Co. Kansas.
Two children where born to this marriage, Steven Paul Schmidtberger Jr. who passed away shortly after birth on March 6, 1975. This son is buried in the Great Bend, Barton Co. Kansas Cemetery in "Baby Land" They were then blessed with a second son, Steven Andrew Schmidtberger born January 30, 1976. Unfortunately this marriage ended in divorce in 1977.
Steven then married Susan Sohm and they had the following children. Jamie (Vsetecka), Jessica (Tomlinson), Kyle Schmidtberger This marriage also ended in divorce of 15yrs.

Steven loved renovating classic cars and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Survivors include his parents, of Cheney Kansas; two sons, Steven Andrew Schmidtberger, Wichita Ks, Kyle Schmidtberger, Great Bend Ks.; two daughters, Jamie Vsetecka and Jessica Tomlinson, both of Great Bend Ks; four grandchildren Jordan Schmidtberger, Dylan Vsetecka, Sierra Vsetecka, Tysten Tomlinson. Brother Mark Allen and wife Diane Schmidtberger, Cheney Kansas.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Steven Paul Schmidtberger Jr.
Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Floyd McKinney, officiant. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Parish in care of the funeral home.
