Frederick "Howard" Springer, 88, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, in Albuquerque, N.M. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Wood-Dunning Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor of First Baptist Church in Miami, Texas. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Howard was born April 9, 1921, in Hale Center. He lived on the same farm in Hale Center for 81 years; the only time he moved was when he joined the Army and served under the 135th Armored Ordinance Maintenance Battalion of the 13th Armored Division. Howard only served one year due to agricultural hardship release as he was the only child and needed to be home. In 2001 he and his wife Mary Lou moved to Belen, N.M., to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren, whom he adored. After losing his wife in 2004, he found great joy in reminiscing about the "good ol' days" with dear coffee buddies and friends he had made since moving to Los Lunas. Mr. Springer also enjoyed his membership at First Baptist Church in Belen.

He is survived by daughters, Barbara Springer and Sherry Eichwald; son-in-law Eric Eichwald; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Courtney Eichwald.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
