Widowed Mrs. Susan A Whitney was an Oregon pioneer arriving by wagon train to the Oregon Territory 18 September 1852.

Susan, Hezekiah & their son Charles Whitney are found in the 1850 census of Madison County, Illinois. Susan’s husband is a “Farmer”. All three are “born in New York” thus Susan & Hezekiah Whitney were probably married in New York.

Susan’s husband Hezekiah Whitney (1826-1852) died of cholera while crossing the plains.
Susan continued to Oregon with her young son Charles Hezekiah Whitney (1848-1924 FAG # 27057024). Susan delivered her daughter Emma J Whitney late 1852 or early 1853 as recorded in the Oregon State archives “Early Oregon Pioneers” database.

As recorded in the “Western States Marriage Index”, Susan A Whitney married Asa Abel Hull in Linn County, Oregon on 14 April 1853. Oregon Territorial Donation Land Claim #1277 is recorded on their marriage record.

Asa Abel Hull & Susan A. Whitney travelled to Oregon on the same wagon train, arriving on the same date.

Together, Susan & Asa Hull had three known children:
William Monroe Hull (1854-1920)
Olive Susan Hull Lowden (1859-1930)
David Asa Hull (1861-1942)

Susan & Asa A Hull divorced abt 1864 in Oregon.

Susan is found in the 1880 Federal Census living in Waterloo, Linn County, Oregon. In this census, Susan is married to David Carnes age 91.
Susan’s youngest child, David Asa Hull is living in the same household.

Susan appears to have lived in Linn County, Oregon from the time she arrived in Oregon until her death in 1884.

Family records show that Susan’s father was David Rudy born abt 1796 in Pennsylvania.
Family records also indicate that Susan’s middle name was Amelia though documentation has not yet been found to confirm either of these records.
