C. A. Roberts was Charles Abner Roberts, son of Charles Golightly Roberts (1811-1882) and Mourning R. Bush (1820-1895).

First, he married Alice Martin (1857-1901) in 1879 and together they had five (5) children:
- Charles B. Roberts (1879–1932)
- Lillia Roberts, b. 1884
- Henry L Roberts (1887–1961)
- Pearl Roberts, b. 1890
- Ada Lee Roberts, b. 1894

Second, he married Lula Lanora "Lou" Middleton (1886–1952) on 17 Aug 1903. Together they had 3 children of their own, and Lou helped raise C. A. & Alice's younger children. In 1910 census, Ada Lee Roberts was 15 years old and still at home with her father and step-mother:
- Ruby Rucell Roberts, b. 1904
- Myron Wanell Roberts, b. 1908
- Claude Aaron Roberts, Jr., b. 1910

Charles Abner Roberts died 2 Dec 1911, and Lou Middleton-Roberts married a James Emory Cross on 23 Mar 1914.
