Captain George Francis Sarvis, 82, retired steamboat captain, died at his home on Prince Street here Thursday after several years of declining health and several days of serious illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. Officiating was th pastor, the Rev. Peden Gene Curry. Burial followed in the churchyard of Socastee Methodist Church under the direction of Mayer Funeral home.

Mr. Sarvis, son of the late Samuel Scarbrough Sarvis and the late Mrs. Elnita Grisette Sarvis was born in the Socastee section of Horry County on June 27, 1882. He was reared in Horry County, and came to make his home in Georgetown after his marriage on December 7, 1910 "Captain Frank" as he was affectionately known,had his master's papers for all Coastal Waterway, inland ports and water ways. He was captain of many boats during his career. His last, which is remembered by many Georgetonians was "The Comanchee" Mr.Sarvis was a member of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Annie Laurie Stalvey Sarvis of Georgetown; two sons Capt. George Francis Sarvis Jr of Brooklyn NY and Gilbert Grissette Sarvis of Brown Summit, North Carolin; a daughter Mrs. Annie Laurie Shuler of Georgetown; two grandsons; two brothers Paul G. Sarvis and Reuben C. Sarvis both of Socastee; three sisters Mrs. Lucy S. Grant and Mrs. Joe S. Dozier of Socastee and Mrs. Honor S. Higgins of Conway; and a number of nephews of and nieces.
