Ole married Signe Gedstad on Jun 2, 1879. Henry, Tena, Betsy and Olga were born to this union.

The following is from "Memorial and Biographical Record of Turner, Lincoln, Union, and Clay Counties, published in 1897.

Ole H. Lier is classed among the most energetic and capable of the Scandinavian farmers and stock raisers of the present generation, who are aiding and carrying forward the great agricultural interests of Lincoln County. He is carrying on his operations in Grant Township, where he also resides with his family.

Mr. Lier was born in Christiania County, Norway, in the year of 1852 (his headstone states 1853), the second son of Havil G. and Betsy Lier, who reared a family of six children; Gilbert, a resident of Iowa; Ole H.; Mattie, the wife of Andrew Anderson, of Rock County, Minn.; Ella, the wife of A. Thorson, of Rock County, Minn.; and Andrew and John, who reside in Iowa.

Ole was reared on a farm in Iowa from his twelfth year, his parents having emigrated from the fatherland to America when he was of that age, and located in the Hawkeye State. He gained the preliminaries of his education in the excellent common schools of the land of his birth, and finished his schooling in the institutions of learning afforded in the vicinity where he lived after coming to America.

He finally located in Lincoln County, Dak. Ter., in 1876, buying the land on which he now resides, all of which he has cultivated and improved himself. Possessing a clear, cool head, a mind well trained, and endowed with energy and good capacity for labor, he is succeeding admirably from a financial standpoint. Among the duties of public office which he has discharged faithfully, have been the positions of supervisor and town treasurer, and he has also been a member of the school board since the organization of that body.

Three years spent as a bachelor on his farm, after coming to Dakota, convinced Mr. Lier that he was sadly in need of a partner in his joys and sorrows. The sterling traits of character possessed by Miss Sena Gedstad, the daughter of a neighbor, won the deep regard of our subject, and, his wooing having proved successful, the couple were united in marriage, and are now the happy parents of three children – Henry, Tina and Betsy.

Mr. Lier has a fine farm of 360 acres, on which he carries on a general farming business.
