Clara Smith

Clara Elsie Bieck was born April 1, 1897, at Harvard, Nebraska, the daughter of Frederick and Helena (Hoffman) Bieck. Her life ended at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska, on September 3, 1976. She had attained the age of 79 years, five months and two days.
In her early life she lived with her parents on a farm northwest of Harvard, until the family moved to Harvard. She was united in marriage with Robert J. Smith on January 18, 1921. She and her husband were both barbers and operated a barber shop in Stockham, Nebraska, from 1924 until 1942 when they moved to Harvard and both continued to operate the barber shop in Harvard until her retirement in 1966.
Clara was a member of First United Methodist Church of Harvard and was a charter member and past president of Harvard American Legion Auxiliary. Also she was a member of World War One Auxiliary, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and past president of the 8 and 40.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary on January 18 this year.
Services for Clara were held Tuesday, September 7, 1976, at 2 p.m. Reverend Fred A. Roberts officiated. Mrs. Doris Lovgren, soloist, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset" accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Voorhees, organist.
Casket bearers were: Russell Aker, Herman Krug, Ray Dudgeon, Walter Hambueger, William Hohnstein and LeRoy Carriker.
Interment was at the Harvard Cemetery with arrangements by Alberding Funeral Home, Harvard, Nebrasaka.
Preceding her in death were her parents. Surviving are her husband, Robert; three sisters, Ida Ljunggren, Aurora; Minnie Smith, Hastings; Allie Webber, Kenesaw; two brothers, Edward Bieck of Harvard and Albert Bieck of Hastings; and several nieces, nephews and many friends who join her husband and family in mourning her loss.
