Dayton L. Huff, 87, Minot, formerly of Donnybrook, ND passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in a Minot hospital.

Dayton was born June 22, 1922 in Carbondale Township, near Donnybrook, ND to Claude and Ruby (Bergo) Huff. He was raised on the family farm along with five sisters and four brothers. He attended Donnybrook Public School and graduated in 1942.

Dayton farmed with his dad after high school and purchased land of his own. On October 19, 1952 he married Amelia Gienger in Anamoose, ND. They farmed and ranched in Carbondale Township, Ward County until his retirement in 1990. They moved to Minot in 2004.

Dayton was a member of the Ward County Farmers Union. He served as a supervisor for Carbondale Township for many years and was an ACSC fieldsman in the 1960's. He raised certified seed for many years.

Dayton and Amelia spent many winters in Mesa, AZ. He loved tending to his fruit trees, playing pool, bocci ball, and golfing. In 1993 they spent a month traveling up and down the Alaska Highway. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his last years nothing would bring a smile to his face faster, or make him feel better than when they showed up.

Those who shared in Dayton's life were: Amelia, his wife and partner of 57 years of Minot; son, Dennis (Alexis) Huff, Donnybrook, daughter, Dianne Huff and special friend, Hank Kirkelie, Donnybrook; grandchildren, Blaine (Dorinda) Huff, Donnybrook, Amy (Ryan) Ones, Tolley, Terry Falcon, Minot, Adrian (Preston) Miller, Donnybrook; great-grandchildren, Sofie Huff, Laura, Jenna and Grant Peterson, Grace and Brooks Ones, Seth Falcon and Hope Miller; brothers, Tom (Bonnie) Huff, Minot, and Robert (Gail) Huff, Donnybrook; sisters, Dolores (Warren) Paulson, Minot, Betty (Ron) Gibler, Pacific Grove, CA, Barbara (Bob) Lee, Richland, WA, Bonnie (Larry) Lee, Bellingham, WA; brothers-in-law, Jim Kaufer, Minot, David (Delores) Gienger, Anamoose; sisters-in-law, Bernice Huff, Minot, Patty Huff, Carpio, Caroline Giese, New Rockford, MN, and Eva Kessler, Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dayton was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Guy and Ralph; sister, Jeanne; brothers-in-law, Waldemer Giese, Ludwig Gienger, Ted Marschel, Paul Kessler, Christian Gienger and sisters-in-law, Magdelyn Marschel and Mary Gienger.

Funeral: Monday, March 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.

Visitation and prayer service: Visitation Sunday, from noon to 5:00 p.m., with the prayer service at 5:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Monday at 1:45 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
