Cecil Maharry, age 101, died at Mercy Hospital in Corning on January 16, 1992 following a stroke. He was born in Adams County, Iowa near Mercer Center July 21, 1891 to Martin Biggar and Jenny Cooke Maharry.

In 1910 when he was 19, his family moved to Green River, Utah. Cecil returned to Iowa and in February, 1914, married Elizabeth Robison. She died of diabetes in December, 1915. In March, 1917, he married Mary Pearle Hewitt. To this union three sons were born: Gerald, Leland and James. In 1954 Pearle passed away of cancer. In May, 1962, he married Nellie Jones Bryant. She passed away in 1983.

Cecil was a farmer and livestock man all of his life before retirement. In 1918 he and Pearle purchased the farm three miles north of Clearfield in Platte Township, Taylor County, Iowa, and he resided there until 1962 when he married Nellie and they lived in Lenox. After Nellie's death he entered the Lenox Care Center in 1984 and that was his home until suffering a stroke on Thursday, Jan. 9, 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, his three wives, a granddaughter and a great grandson.

Survivors include sons Gerald of Lenox, Iowa, Leland of Johnson City, Tenn. and James of Whittier, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

Cecil spent his 100 years in Adams and Taylor County, Iowa, except for the two years spent in Utah. He was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church of Lenox. He was well known and liked by all who knew him.
