He was born September 15, 1930 in rural Brunswick, the son of Henry Garrett Manson and Josephine Caroline Meyer Manson. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1948 and then attended the University of Missouri. In February, 1952, he was drafted into the U. S. Marine Corp. Following his basic training he returned home on leave and was married to Ann Elizabeth Edwards on April 19, 1952 in Brunswick. He received an Honorable Discharge after serving for two years during the Korean War.
Mr. Manson served as Postmaster of the Keytesville Post Office for 29 years, retiring in 1985. He was also engaged in farming for most of his life. He was a member of the Keytesville United Methodist Church, Warren Lodge #74 AF & AM and the Rucker-McAllister American Legion Post #7 in Brunswick.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ann Manson; one son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Joleen Manson of Keytesville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Ann and Doug Sandstedt, Dallas, Texas, Marilyn and David Tucker, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mary Margaret and Eric Hillenbrand of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister, Patricia Lennahan, Tiffany Falls, New Jersey; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Manson, Erin Stapleton, Ashley Mare, Justine Aholt, Lauren Sandstedt, Sydney Tucker, Ashton Hillenbrand and Brooks Hillenbrand; 31 nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry and Charles Manson, and three sisters, Inez, Mary and Catherine.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 25, at the Keytesville United Methodist Church, under the direction of Summerville Funeral Home, Salisbury, followed by a Masonic service. Burial was in the Keytesville City Cemetery with full Military honors provided by the Rucker-McAllister Post #7 of Brunswick.
