Services for Larry E. Evinger, 49, Baldwin, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Kansas Highway Patrol, Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion at Vinland Cemetery, Vinland.

Mr. Evinger died Sunday, June 16, 1996, at his home following a two-year illness caused by cancer.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1946, in Paola, the son of Lawrence O. and Meda M. McRoberts Evinger.

He was raised in Osawatomie and graduated in 1964 from Osawatomie High School. He entered the United States Air Force and served four years as sergeant in the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. He was a sergeant with the Kansas Army National Guard from 1978 to 1983.

Mr. Evinger was a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. He had been in law enforcement for 20 years and had also served with the police departments at Kansas University and Eudora. He had attended the Kansas Law Enforcement Academy and Kansas Bureau of Investigation Academy..

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Texas and the Eudora Assembly of God Church in Eudora.

He was a member of International Arson Investigators Assn., Kansas Narcotic Officers Assn., the Kansas Sheriffs Assn., the Kansas Peace Officers Assn., Alford-Clarke VFW Post No. 852 and Dorsey-Liberty American Legion Post 14.

He married Suzanne Van Sickle on Sept. 28, 1985, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Amy Evinger Johnston, Lawrence; a son, Jonathan, Lawrence; parents, Lawrence and Meda Evinger, Eudora; a sister, Karen Garcia, Larned; three brothers, T.L., David and Rodney, all of Eudora; and two grandchildren.
