John Mitchell Ramer was the son of Robert and Mary Ramer, born in Kittanning, Pennsylvnia. He died March 21, 1928,from the effects of a stroke of paralysis suffered less than two weeks previous.

On April 11, 1875, he was united in marriage with Isabella Smail, who preceded him in death in 1821. To them were born six children, five of which survive:

John W. Ramer of Youngstown, Ohio
L.H. Ramer of Youngstown, Ohio
Mrs. Mary Walls of New Bethlehem
Mrs. Mertie Stewart of Brookville
Walter Ramer, deceased
He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and the following siblings:
Henry Ramer of Shelocta
Robert Ramer of Kittanning
Mrs. Anna Geisler of Pittsburgh
Mrs. Louisa Eberhearter of Pittsburgh
Mrs. Hannah Huber of Rural Valley
Mr. Ramer was a resident of Mahoning Township for many years, a farmer by occupation and a man of rugged constitution who at the age of 76 had the firm step and erect carriage of a man many years his junior.
Funeral services were held at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Sylvia Walls Bargerstock of Distant, Saturday afternoon, March 24, 1928, conducted by Rev. J.M. McKinley, pastor of the Baptist Church. Interment was in Distant cemetery by undertaker R.F. Mateer of New Bethlehem.
Relatives beside his children who were home for the funeral were: Mrs. Louisa Eberharter, Mrs. Anna Geisler, Mrs. Hannah Huber, Mrs. Ralph Huber, Mr. Hankerson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ramer, Howard Kimmel, Blaine Miller, Mrs. Paul Kimmel, Miss Rose Ramer and Lewis Ramer.
