He was born in Canton, Ohio on Aug. 14, 1926 to Robert S. Black Sr. and Gladys S. McGuire Black. On May 9, 1948, he married Ruth Haxton in Mellott, Indiana. She survives.
He is also survived by four children, James (Tia) Black of Danville, Dennis (Laura) Black of Covington, Indiana, Karl (Jeanine) Black of St. Joseph, Il. and Joetta (Denny) Lee of Owensboro, Ky.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Pepping of Danville and Jean (Garland) Fisher of Veedersburg, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Dorothy and Nancy; one son, Lowell and his brother, George.
He served in U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
