Charles emigrated to the United States in 1872 at age 21 years, and filed to become a citizen of this country in 1874. He married Caroline Hartshorn on March 23, 1875 in Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Charles and Carrie had six children, 2 boys and 4 girls, and celebrated 62 years of marriage. For many years, they farmed in the Perrysburg community.
