DEATH OF MRS. BROOKS

Mrs. Catherine J. Brooks, the beloved wife of J. Milton Brooks, died last Sunday morning at 2 o'clock at her home on South River. Mrs. Brooks had been in ill-health for several months and her death did not come as a suprise. She was 68 years of age. The funeral took place Monday afternoon at the Bethel Prebyterian church, of which the deceased was a consistent member and was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. A. Lapsley, the pastor of Bethel, assisted by Dr. Geo. W. Finley, of Tinkling Spring. The pall bearers were J. S. Wallace, R. F. Wallace, S. F. Pilson, Geo. C. Hawpe, Dr. W. B. Dodge, W. Wayt King, Jno. W. Paul and J. N. McFarland.

Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of Thomas Shields and was born near Mint Spring, this county. Her only brother, John T. Shields, and her sister, Mrs. Wm. King, who was the mother of W. Wayt King and Mrs. J. N. McFarland, preceded her to the grave. The deceased is survived by her husband and seven children. They are: Thos. S. Brooks, of Buckingham; Wm. S. Brooks, of Omaha, Nebraska; and John II., Joseph A. and Chas M. Brooks, of this county; Mrs. W. A. Hodge, of Stuarts Draft and MRs. Chas. M. Paul, of Tinkling Spring.
