R. F. Curry, 84, educator, church leader and Wellington Postmaster for a longer tenure than any other to hold that office, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, March 15, in a Memphis hospital. He was a patient there two days. For several years he had stayed with a daughter, Miss Loraine Curry, in Memphis, but retained his house here and called Wellington home. Mr. Curry came here in 1905 from Ellis County and for two years taught in the first school built in Wellington specifically for educational purposes, two blocks east and two north of the courthouse square. He brought a cultivated and a liberal mind to a school just leaving behind it's pioneer days. In 1907, he left the system, but in 1909 he returned and the following year he was elevated to principal, a post he continued to hold until 1918 when he became superintendent. In 1919, he entered business, but resumed his connection with the school system as a trustee in 1924 and held that office for more than 10 years, contributing almost 30 years to the development of Wellington's educational facilities. After several years in the business office of Castleberry and Kern, he was appointed Wellington postmaster in 1934 and held that post 19 years, until he retired in 1953. He then was bookkeeper for Bobo Castleberry for several years. Even longer was his service to the Methodist Church, of which he became a member in 1890. He served on the official board of First United Methodist Church for many years and for an equally long period taught the Sunday School class that bears his name. Revis Fletcher Curry was born July 31, 1885 in Waxahachie, the son of Isaac B. and Lena L. Cox Curry. He attended North Texas State University and the University of Texas. On Jan. 27, 1907, he was married to Miss Lawrence Alice Stall, in Wellington. She preceded him in death Oct. 13, 1952. Surviving are three children: Miss Loraine Curry of Memphis; Mrs. Sam Gholson of Muleshoe, and Donald Curry of Wellington; a brother, Wallace Curry of San Antonio; six grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren, One son, Fletcher Curry, died Dec. 15, 1968.
