Jesse Mercer Battle,second son of Jesse Brown Battle and Sallie Herrin Salter Battle, was killed as a boy when a horse ran away with him near Loco, Texas. The Battle family moved from the area and no siblings survive (2011).

Wellington, Tex., Nov. 11 - Mercer Battle of this county was fatally hurt yesterday by a horse falling on him. He died of his injuries last night. (Denton County News, Denton, Tex., Nov. 21, 1895)
