Martha was born to Martha Rodwell and Thomas McNeely. Martha Rodwell died giving birth to "Mattie" and her records have not yet been found nor where she is buried.

Martha gave birth to eleven children and is believed to be half Choctaw Indian but was rejected from the Choctaw roles because she did not apply earlier in life to be included. It is family legend that her mother was full blooded Indian and that may be why her records have not yet been located.
