James married Nicy Ann Campbell on 23 April 1842 in Knox Co. He was a carpenter by trade. Ann was left to raise 3 younger children when he died. Nicy Ann was living with her youngest son Charles on the 1900 Knox Co. Census. It showed she was born in 1828 in South Carolina. William and Ann had the following children: Mary Ellen (1844), William C. (1846), Jane (1848), James . (1853), Samuel Rogers (1855), Frank (1858) and Charles (1865). One question arises about James. Did he die in the Civil War? There is a James H. Bradley listed as a Private in the 9 Tennessee Cavalry on the Confederate side. From Ron Jones "The only record of service that I could find on him indicated he was captured and sent to Camp Morton in Indianapolis as a POW. He was released on oath in July 1864 and since Knoxville was in Union hands at this time and it would be safe for him to return now that he had changed sides. He may have died because of disease contracted in prison."
