Mary was the daughter of Nelson and Martha Garland Harper. She was born Feb. 14, 1843. Her mother died on Nov. 2, 1861. Mary was just over 18 years old. The next year, 1862, on Aug. 3, she married Leander Wheeler. He was in the Civil War and died at camp in Cassville, Mo. on March 2, 1863. Then 5 years later she married George Claypool. She had 6 children, Janie, 1869; Leander, 1871; Julia, 1874; Alice, 1876; Minnie, 1878 and Alta, 1881. George and Mary belonged to Turkey Creek Baptist Church where they attended with their children. When they both died in 1924 they were buried in the Turkey Creek Cemetery. All of their children except Alta and Alice are also buried there. Alta is buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Polk Co., MO. and Alice is buried at Pennsboro Cemetery in Dade Co., MO.
