Audy "Bill" Boyd Campbell, age 81, of Summerow Rd., Lincolnton passed away, Sunday February 21, 2010 at Cardinal Health Care in Lincolnton.

Born September 23, 1928 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Aubrey Campbell and the late Evelyn Carpenter Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a member of St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Maiden where he had served as an elder, church deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was an Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 240.

In addition to his parents, a daughter, Penny Abernethy and a sister Margaret Goodson preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Campbell of the home. Others left to cherish his memories: one son, Shawn Campbell and wife Annette of Lincolnton; two daughters, Cindy and Jerry Minteer of Lincolnton, Sonya and Johnny Leonard of Lincolnton; two brothers, Vernon Campbell of Lincolnton, Lester Campbell of Maiden; two sisters, Ruby Bumgarner of Maiden, Genevieve Reinhardt of Maiden; four grandchildren, Eric Leonard, Misty Burgess, Brittany Minteer, Jordan Minteer; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Burgess, Aubree Minteer.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 23, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Maiden with the Rev. Raymond Jachowski officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside honors by American Legion Post 240 of Maiden. The family will receive friends tonight, February 22, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.
