Joe William Long, 86, of Olney, died November 20, 2006, at his residence.

Mr. Long was born February 19, 1920, in Wayne County, the son of Luther Benjamin and Clara Bowers Long.

He married Lois Edna Finley on July 24, 1940.

She preceded him in death July 12, 1969.

He married Dorothy Runyon Boatman on April 29, 1972.

He was a former owner of a tree service business. He later worked in the oil field. He attended Mt. Gilead Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in both Europe and Japan. He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved baseball and was the manager of the former VFW Olney Jets baseball team. He was an outdoors person and enjoyed all things of nature.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife of 34 years; son, Keith Warren Long; daughter, Linda Ann Kissel; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, a sister, seven brothers, a niece and five nephews.
