La Grande
1940-2010

James Arthur Whiteman, 69, of La Grande, died Feb. 17 at his home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.

James was born Oct. 14, 1940, to Art and Ada in La Grande. He worked for Boise Cascade sawmill for 35 years until retiring.

He liked hang gliding in his younger days. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards and playing jokes on people. Those who knew him say he enjoyed being with his family and loved them dearly.

He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Jerry and Audra Whiteman of Star, Idaho, and Jamie and April Whiteman of La Grande; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; siblings, Ed and Sherry Whiteman of Elgin, David of La Grande, Linda and Robert Rysdam of La Grande and Betty Kimball of La Grande.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; and four sisters, Dorla Culver, Jennie Cookson, Nancy Rachau and Donna Whiteman.
