C. S. MATHEW, M. D., Newmansville; is a native of Menard Co., Ill.; born Feb. 25, 1851; son of Lewis C. and Rebecca (Conyers) Mathew. Lewis C. Mathew, subject's father, a native of Indiana, and a farmer by occupation, was born Nov. 28, 1820, and died Jan. 14, 1863; his wife a native of Kentucky, was born Aug. 18, 1825. Our subject pursued the study of his profession in the medical department of the University of Ann Arbor, Mich., two years, and at the medical college of Cincinnati, Ohio, one year; practiced medicine in connection with Dr. Houghton of Mason County, Ill., for a time; received his diploma in 1879. and located at Newmansville, where he has built up an extensive and rapidly increasing practice. The Doctor is a Democrat; he is a member of the Masonic lodge at Petersburg, Menard County, Ill.
