James Franklin (Pete) Painter, 78, of Luray died 10:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at Page Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient six days. He was born July 3, 1893 at Grove Hill and was a son of the late George W. and Mary Ellen Wilson Painter. Mr. Painter was a retired carpenter and foreman of Baughan Construction Company. He was a member of the Luray Church of the Brethren. Ruth M. Moyer, whom he married Feb. 5, 1915, survives. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Carroll Painter of Luray; two daughters, Mrs. Archie Jenkins and Miss Marie Painter, both of Luray; a brother, Charles L. Painter of Luray; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Campbell of Luray and Mrs. Robert Barham of Winchester and five grandchildren. One son, one daughter, three brothers and three sisters are deceased. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Luray Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Max Fisher and Elder W.T. Daily. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
