Mr. Earl Jacob Schwend went to be with his Lord and Savior on
November 5, 2013. He was born on November 18, 1924 in Belleville, Wisconsin. Mr.
Schwend served in the U. S. Navy as an Aviation Radioman during WWII. Earl met
the love of his life, Dorothy, in 1944 in Callahan, FL; they married and were
blessed with seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Schwend started the Church of the
Nazarene in Monroe, WI and the Crossroads Family Worship Center in Callahan, FL
and were members of Evangel Temple in Jacksonville, FL. Earl was a former mayor
of the Town of Callahan. He started selling insurance in 1967 and retired from
the Schwend Insurance Agency at the age of 80. Mr. Schwend is survived by: his
children Donald and Margaret Schwend, Ronald and Dale Schwend, Connie and Homer
Webb, Bonnie and Dick Follis, Linda and Charlie Gressman, Karen and Stan Conner,
and Paul and Brenda Schwend; sister Elaine and Harold Ruchti; brother Glenn and
Viola Schwend; (15)grandchildren; (29) great-grandchildren; and (2)
great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Schwend was preceded in death by: his loving wife
of 64 years, Dorothy Schwend; his parents Nelson and Lillian Schwend; and his
brother Eugene Schwend who was killed in the Korean War. Pallbearers will be Mr.
Schwends grandsons: Daryn, Jason, Byron, Travis, Caleb, Jonathan, Grant,
Anthony, and Joshua. The family will receive friends Friday, November 8, 2013
from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Callahan. Funeral services
will be conducted by Rev. Cecil Wiggins Saturday, November 9, 2013 11:00 a.m. in
the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Callahan. Interment will follow in
Jones Cemetery Callahan, FL. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be
made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. Arrangements by Giddens-Reed
