Jesse James Alger, 81, of Stanley died on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, in Stanley.
He was born on June 29, 1926 in Stanley and was a son of the late John Abraham and Betty Elizabeth Alger.
Mr. Alger served with the CCC camps in Page County.

On July 30, 1946, he married the former Mary Evelyn Pence, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Carolyn Sue Burton and Mary Jane McKenzie, both of Luray; two sons, Jesse Junior Alger of Shenandoah and Robert Franklin ‘Bobby' Alger of Luray; two brothers, Michael L. and Robert E. Alger, both of Stanley; a sister, Virginia Mae Cubbage of Stanley; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Scot ‘Scottie' Alger; and a brother Buck Alger.

A funeral service was conducted at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Elder Jeff Taylor and Elder Roy Campbell.

Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray.
