MRS. M. V. SMITH DIES AS RESULT OF FALL





Mrs. M. V. Smith died Sunday in a hospital at Parsons as a result of blood poisoning caused by a break in her hip joint received in a fall at her home here. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the home, Rev. Thomas of Oswego officiating and burial being in Oak Hill cemetery. She is survived by nine children, William, James M. and Myrtle Smith, Mesdames Anna Roseberry, Mary Fulkerson and Martha E. Hamilton of Chetopa; Mrs. A. E. Hamilton of Parson, Robert smith of Haviland Kas., and E. C. Smith of LaKemp, Okla. She also is survived by 37 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Anna Hamilton of Breckenridge, Mo.


Mary E. Craig was born in Boone county, Indian, October 24, 1847. She was married to M. V. Smith April 19, 1865, at Lebanon, Ind., and to this union were born ten children, one of whom, Clarence, died March 5, 1915. She came to Chetopa 24 years ago. She was left a widow June 9, 1914. She was converted at the age of 17 years and became a member of the Christian church.
