GASTONIA - Roscoe Wilson Ballard, 96, died Friday, Feb.19, 2010, at Abingdon Place, Gastonia.

He was born in Lincoln County and was the son of the late Oliver Alonzo and Margaret Lemmons Ballard.

Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lena Wallace Ballard; one son: Thomas Jerry Ballard; five brothers: Will, Grover, Clyde Monroe Ballard, Arlie Theodore Ballard and Lawrence Ballard; two infant sisters

Mr. Ballard retired from the Rex # 2 Plant, Ranlo and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Lowell.

Mr. Ballard is survived by one son: Gene Ballard, Sr. and wife June of Shelby; one daughter: Pauline Evelyn "Polly" Pickelsimer and husband Jerry of Crouse; one daughter-in-law: Ella Ballard of Gastonia; 7 grandchildren: Deborah Bailes and husband John of Belmont, Chris Scheipers and husband Joe of Charlotte, Alan Pickelsimer and Myelita Melton of Mooresville, Angela Brown and husband Dean of Ranlo, Gene Ballard, Jr. and wife Jenny of Kings Mountain, Joan Imand and husband Bill of Atlanta, David Ballard of Clover; eight great grandchildren: Gene Ballard III, Drake Ballard, Amanda Mager, Heidi Royce, Jerry Brown, Jason Bailes, Russell Bailes, David Pickelsimer; one step great granddaughter: Rachel Galloway; six great, great grandchil-dren:Casey Scheipers, Gabe Mager, Preston Nixon, Emma Griffin, Jack Bailes, Jacob Brown; one step great, great grandson: Zack Delvecchio

The family of Mr. Ballard would like to express their appreciation for the loving care shown to Our Father by Abingdon Place and Gaston Hospice.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at The Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia with the Revs. David Clippard and Fred High officiating. Entombment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials be made to: Gaston Hospice, P. O. Box 3984, Gastonia, N. C. 28054.

Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia is serving the Ballard family.
