Lehman Maurice Proffitt

Lehman Proffitt, 83, of Centralia, died March 27, at Providence Hospital, Centralia.

He was born July 21, 1906 in Centralia, where he had resided all his life. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Proffitt was graduated from Centralia High School in 1924, then went on to graduate from the University of Washington, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He married Mildred Culp, Sept. 16, 1931, at the University Christian Church in Seattle.

Mr. Proffitt entered the family business, Proffitt's Department Store, where he was active until his retirement in 1962.

He was a member of Lodge 63, F. and A.M., AFIFI Shrine Temple of Tacoma, Centralia Federal Savings and Loan board and past president of the Rotary Club of which he was a member for over 60 years.

Mr. Proffitt was also a past patron of Centralia Chapter 14, Order of Eastern Star and a past president of Centralia Chamber of Commerce. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in England and France.

He is survived by his wife, at home, of 58 years, Mildred; a son, Jon of Republic, WA; a daughter Christine, Centralia; one grandson, Ben, Centralia; two nephews, Dean Proffitt of Centralia and Joe Proffitt of Olympia.

Funeral Services will be Friday, March 30, at Newell-Hoerling's Chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Michael Moreland and Rev. Harvey C. Hartling officiating, with interment at Greenwood Memorial Park in Centralia. The Services will be concluded at the Chapel.
