Funeral services will be in the Dawson & Wikoff chapel for Frank M.(Shorty) Hall, 81 retired veteran Decatur rural route mail carrier. He died suddenly of a heart attack in his home on Rogers Ave. He had been failing health for the last few months but had not been bedfast.

In 1923 he became eligible for retirement from the mail service at the age of 65 but requested and received an extension to 1927 which gave him a service record of 25 years.

In his long service as a carrier, he became intimately acquainted with farm families on his route. Among his close friends was Adolph Mueller, chairman of the board of directorsof the Mueller Co, a friendship which developed during a duck hunting trip. He preferred horse-drawn carriage over automobile for mail deliveries and used his favorite horse long after other carriers turned to use an automobile. He was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association and of the Modern Woodmen of America.

With the Mueller boys, 50 years ago Shorty Hall built one of the first steamboats ever operated on the Sangamon river. One old friend of Mr. Hall recalled this boat carried passengers from a point near the old dam to Hog Island which was near the old Riverside part. As a pilot of this boat Shorty became know as Commodore a name which many knew him by for the remainder of his life.

He was also a member of the Goodman band. He was the smallest member of the band but played the biggest instrument the bass drum in a parade he had to look around the side of the drum to see where he was going.

Mr. Hall was born in Saratoga, N. Y., July 12, 1858, a son of the late Myron C and Clarissa Hall. Since he was 18 years old he lived in Decatur. He married Eliza Jane Wishard in Belleville Oct. 19, 1885. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Harry Koontz of Decatur, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
