Betty Joellyn Ladd Bemusdaffer was born on June 8, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harry McKinley Ladd, Sr. and Olive Frances Carter. Betty had a brother, Harry McKinley Ladd, Jr. who was five years older. Olive carried Betty almost 10 months before she was born. When she arrived, she was a big baby. The newspaper published a picture of Olive and baby Betty on the day after the birth with the headline of "244 oz of Baby".

Betty married Bart Bemusdaffer, son of Oscar Leslie Bemusdaffer and Alma Arnett, on October 20, 1949, in Oklahoma City. Betty attended Oklahoma University for a year and subsequently worked for Haliburton's, Kerrs, and Rothchilds department stores. In February 1960, Betty started working at KOCO-TV, Channel 5, first as sales secretary and then as the first female television account executive for the Oklahoma City area. She moved to Channel 9 in 1971 to become Administrative Assistant to the President of the station. She left there in 1975, and in January 1976, became a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital where she volunteered for more than 24 years. In 1999, she also began volunteering as a Docent for the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.

A long-time member of the First Christian Church in Oklahoma City, Betty served first as a Deaconess and then as an Elder. Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Nova Chapter, serving as Grand Marshal for the State of Oklahoma in 1984. Also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Betty once held a Grand Officers appointment in that organization. Betty died of a stroke at the age of 74 on November 9, 2000, in Oklahoma City, after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bart Bemusdaffer; her parents; and her brother. She was placed in care of the Smith-Kernke Funeral Home with burial at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
