Funeral Services for Lawrence Thornton Strong, 85, of Karnack were held at 11 a.m. today in the Colonial Chapel of Sullivan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Spanhanks officiating. Burial was in Strong Cemetery.
Mr. Strong died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1981 in Shreveport's Veteran's Administration Hospital.
He was born March 6, 1896 in Henderson, the son of Jeff Davis and Ada Bell Greenwood Strong. He was educated at the Chapman School in Henderson and married Myrtle Elizabeth Liles on Dec. 25, 1923 in Tatum. He moved to Karnack in 1936.
He was a self-employed farmer and cattleman and a former employee of Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant. He was a member of Karnack Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Elizabeth Liles Strong of Karnack; two sons, Lawrence Thornton Strong Jr. of Bossier City and Jack Edmond Strong of Shreveport; three grandchildren, Mrs. Roger (Linda) Bates, Dawn Melanie Strong and Stephen T. Strong; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
