She was the wife of the late Hilton Lee James and was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Surry County to the late Joseph Crystal and Maude Lee Simmons.
Millie began her nursing career at the Polio Hospital in Greensboro and retired as the Director of Nurses from Wesley Long Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington where she had taught Sunday School and worked in the office.
Survivors include her son, Mike James and his wife Lisa of Summerfield; grandchildren, Hannah Long and her husband Devin and Jeremy James; a great-grandson, Brett Long; a sister, Jesse Harrell of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister JoAnna Katrinak; and brothers, Richard "Joe" Simmons, Raymond Simmons and Warren Simmons.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Burlington by Dr. Terry Peele. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
