Judy Keene, 64, of Tolleytown, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.
She was born Aug. 13, 1944, at Harper, W.Va., to Ray and Faye Lester. In 1960, she married her husband of 48 years in the same house in the same room where she was born. Her grandfather, the Rev. Alfred Lester, performed the ceremony. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother with an unshakable faith in God. She cherished her family more than anything else on this earth. She also loved her church family at Lester First Church of God. Her sense of humor will always be remembered and cherished by those closest to her. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, but wanted us all to be comforted by the fact that she knew she was bound for her Heavenly home. Judy's strong spirituality was a great comfort to her loved ones, especially in her final days, and she was a witness for Jesus Christ to us all.
Judy lost a beloved daughter, Karen Keene Todd, on June 20, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and a few cousins. She was also more recently preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Hazel Keene Bryant; and a brother-in-law, Harold Knapp.
Judy is survived by her husband, David Keene of Lester; two daughters, Pamela Wood of Lester and Melissa Keene of Princeton; two granddaughters, Jaime Wood Doss of Lester and Briannah Todd of Lester; four brothers, Bobby (Nora) Lester of St. Albans, Denny (Diane) Lester of Circleville, Ohio, Basil "Sleepy" (Ann) Lester of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jimmy (Deloris) Lester of Lester; a sister, Peggy (Mervin) Barker of Eccles; four stepbrothers, Jesse (Ann) Keene of North Carolina, Homer (Becky) Keene of Maryland, Donnie (Bennie) Keene of Lester, and Nicky Harold Keene of Texas; three stepsisters, Cora Knapp of Hamilton, Ohio, Rosemary (Gene) Lafferty of Holy Hills, and Susan (James) Sloan of Beckley; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held to pay our respects to Judy at 1 p.m. Friday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with the Rev. Dale Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Tolleytown Community Cemetery at Tolleytown.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dale and the congregation at Lester First Church of God for their thoughts, prayers and help, as well as all of our family and friends who helped in any way and all the other churches in West Virginia and several other states who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. The family would also like to thank Dr. Billy Cole, as well as the staff at Hospice of Southern West Virginia, for the wonderful care Judy received in her final days. We want to thank Danette "Cookie" Runion, an old and special friend of the family, in particular, for her love and affection toward us all during Judy's final months. All the help we received from anyone/everyone is greatly appreciated by the family. May God bless you, each and every one.

Instead of sending flowers, please make a donation in Judy's honor to Hospice of Southern West Virginia at P.O. box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472 because the family found their help in Judy's caregiving a real gift from God, and it would be impossible to repay them for the comfort they afforded Judy and her family.
