Joan Bryan Goodnight, 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in CityChurch, 205 S. Polk St., with the Rev. Donnie Lane officiating. Burial will be in Goodnight Cemetery in Goodnight by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Joan was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Gould, Okla., to C.L. and Lou Ellen Abercrombie. She grew up traveling the state of Oklahoma and would sing in the Baptist churches that her father was the pastor of. Her love of singing stayed with her throughout her entire life.

She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Bryan, after they met while attending Samnorwood High School. They were married for more than 30 years and had three sons and a daughter.

She lived most of her life in Amarillo, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Khoury Brothers House of Carpets during the 1970s.

During the 1980s and part of the 1990s, she was co-owner of the Little Red School House, where her love of children and teaching the young was evident.

She spent a lot of her weekends during the late 1970s traveling throughout Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico singing in churches to spread the good news about the love of Jesus Christ.

She loved her family, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, who were the joys of her life. From the oldest to the youngest, she loved them and was proud of them.

She had spent the last six years married to Elden Goodnight, where they have enjoyed life as newlyweds. They were able to enjoy hot tea on the porch and watch the gardens grow. They traveled around the Panhandle area and loved to see the beauty this area has to offer. Her family doubled in size with Elden's four daughters and their families.

She will be missed by all her family that she always took the time to call, encourage, and love. Welcome home to heaven my good and faithful servant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Bryan; and a brother, Mack Abercrombie.

Survivors include her husband, Elden Goodnight; three sons, Michael Bryan and wife Patricia and David Bryan and wife Adele, all of Amarillo, and Richard Bryan and wife Nona of Crum; a daughter, Terri Zuniga and husband Sal of Amarillo; four stepdaughters, Ilene Goodnight of Portland, Ore., Debbie Fidura of Washington, and Elen Kay Dunlap and Betty Jo Goodnight, both of of Klamath, Ore.; a sister, Theda Booker of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Joan also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
