John Glenn Hackleman "Hack" was born on January 2, 1912 in Saltillo, Texas to Charlie Walker Hackleman and Lela Miller Hackleman. He married Thelma Mae Mott on July 20, 1942 in Austin, Texas.

For many years of Glenn's life he drove a bus. He drove a city bus in Austin, which is where he met his wife, and he also drove for Continental/Trailways and Kerrville Buslines. He made the headlines as a bus driver during World War II, while taking a load of naval recruits to basic training, he joined up also. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, as a Baker 1st Class, in World War II. When he returned to Austin in the mid 1950's he worked for Buttercrust Bakery and also for Mrs. Johnson's Bakery until they closed down. He then went to work for Henna Chevrolet, which is where he retired from, but his passion was baseball. He played baseball in East Texas. He also coached North Austin Lions Little League at Shipe Field for many years. Many will remember him as the coach and the driving force behind the Austin Senators semi-pro baseball team. His knowledge of baseball facts was extensive and he continued to impress those around him.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, his parents and his sisters, Helen Hackleman, Fannie Holden and husband Loyed, and Lucille Smith and husband Gordon "Smitty" Smith. He is survived by their children and spouses, Bill Hackleman, Ron Hackleman and wife Susan, John "Randy" Hackleman and wife Zetta, Garry Hackleman and wife Linda and Lou Ann Hackleman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindy Jackson and husband Brad, Brian Parker and wife Carol, Reagan Hackleman, Jon Hackleman, Susanna Hackleman, Keith Hackleman, Audra Hackleman, Tara Hughey, and one great grandson, Garrett Parker. Other surviving family members include sisters-in-law Emma Jean Weiss, her husband Kermit, Ferbia Ferzoco and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Taylor Care Center, Dr. Richard Pierce, the staff at Georgetown Hospital, and the staff at Christopher House Hospice Austin.

Graveside Services will be held at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery on January 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Christopher House Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759.
