Vinal was the son of Miles and Laura Clikeman. He spent most of his childhood in Iowa near Grundy Center and then around 1900 his family moved to Turner Co., SD near Parker. Vinal spent the rest of his life in or near Parker except for a few years he spent in Vermillion going to business college(1905)and on his homestead near Belle Fourche,SD (1910). He worked for Turner County for 14 years as Deputy Auditor and Auditor and then in 1927 he entered the banking business. For a number of years, Vinal and his nephew, Robert, ran the Parker State Bank where he served as Vice-President and President.

Vinal married Dott Miller in 1931. She passed away in 1941. In 1954 he married Anna R. Woltz, a widow lady and old friend.

Vinal played local baseball and was active in a number of community activities including the volunteer fire dept., Parker school board and Masonic Lodge. All of his relatives and friends knew him as "Snops".
