John Eadie, Sr.

The first pioneer of Green Bush and the last surviving one passed away on Saturday, Oct. 1st, in the person of John Eadie at the age of 96 years and 3 months. Death was due to old age and the aged pioneer quietly passed away surrounded by his relatives.
John Eadie was born near Gartness, Scotland, and when 41 years of age came to Manitoulin Island and settled in Green Bush. He lived here nearly all his life, spending only two years out of the 55 years in Little Current. Fifty-three years ago he married Alice Hedges, Lincolnshire, England, and to this union were born twelve children, four girls and eight boys. Two daughters, Ellen and Susan, predeceased him and one son, Gordon, died in North Battleford, Sask., some years ago. Those left to mourn their loss are: Mrs. Sam Lee, Vanderhoof, B.C.; Mrs. Wallace Bean, Foam Lake, Sask.; William, Charles, Robert and Albert, of Green Bush; Daniel and Joseph, of Foam Lake, Sask. and John, of Little Current.
The funeral was held on Sunday. Interment taking place in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Rev. E. Weeks officiated and funeral was directed by O. T. Bennett
