DEATH CLAIMS PIONEER.

Abraham B. Akeroyd, 81 years old, a Civil war veteran and a resident of Kansas for nearly a half century, died at his home, 1129 West Walnut street, Friday, Sept. 19. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 Monday at the home by Rev. Joel A. Barker, of the Methodist church, followed by burial in Elmdale cemetery.

Mr. Akeroyd’s age at the time of his death was 80 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was born in Yorkshire, England but moved to Ohio at an early age and enlisted and served with the Union army throughout the war of the rebellion as a volunteer from that state. In 1876 he removed to Topeka and was in business in that city for about 20 years. He removed to Osawatomie in 1869. He has taken an active part in the religious movements of this city and all movements tending to develop a better citizenship and a more influential community. He was a prominent member of the local G. A. R. post and his burial was conducted under the direction of that organization. Pallbearers were selected from the post membership and were J. W. Anderson, T. H. Hunt, G. W. Lessenden, Orrie Hoag, A. J. Foster and M. A. Bishop.

He is survived by his wife and six children. The children are as follows: Mrs. Laura Hartzell, Topeka; Mrs. Wynona Dunlap, Little Rock, Ark.; Mrs. Bessie Spaulding, Osawatomie; Mrs. Jennie Huntley, Wichita; Mrs. Mary Fuller, Hoisington; and George Akeroyd, Osawatomie.
