David Joseph Francis, 74, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, after a lengthy illness.

Dave retired from the NCR Corp. after 38 years of service.

In the 1970s, Dave enjoyed volunteering as a disc jockey at WYSO in Yellow Springs where he hosted "Lullabies, Legends & Lies" folk music and the "Rise When the Rooster Crows" bluegrass shows.

Dave was born and raised in the Sidney area and was a veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bill Barhorst, of Dayton; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mary Francis, of San Francisco, Calif., and Paul and Lisa Francis, of Kettering; grandchildren, who fondly knew him as "Grandpa Dave," Bailey, Sam, Matthew (Barhorst), Sierra, Raina and Aria; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Joe Thaman, of Sidney; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Jill Francis, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Smith) Francis, in 1977; and parents, Marion and Kathryn (Gudenkauf) Francis.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood. Interment will be held privately at the Graceland Cemetery in Sidney.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until time of services.
