Mable Brantley Beard, 84, of Houston, formerly of Laurel, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, in Houston, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel. Dr. Randy Turner will officiate.
She was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Walnut Grove. She spent most of her adult life in Laurel with her beloved husband Kenneth "Kenny" Beard. She was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church in Laurel. She loved her life in Laurel and especially enjoyed gardening, baking, reading and lending a helping hand whenever possible. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, John and May Brantley; seven brothers; and a sister.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Letitia and Kent Stephenson of Houston; two grandchildren, Laura Stephenson of New York City, N.Y., and Cole Stephenson of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Murphy Brantley of Covington, La., and Louis Brantley and William Brantley, both of Purvis; and two sisters, Eula Mae Brantley of La Marque, Texas, and Janice Boozer of Forest.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to Hospice Care Charities.
Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
