Mrs. Fred L. Armstrong
Mrs. Fred L. Armstrong passed away at her home on Alden street in the village of Cherry Valley on Thursday, February 6th. She was stricken suddenly on the day before about noon-time with a heart attack. In the morning she had been up-street and called on several friends. Shortly after dinner she complained of pain in her side which rapidly grew worse. Her sudden death is a great shock to her many friends.
Bertha Ellen Bennett was born in Mondamin, Iowa, on August 31, 1876, the daughter of James Morrell Bennett and Jennie A. Chase. The early part of her life was spent in Iowa and Nebraska. Before her marriage she spent some eyars in Milford, N.Y., where her family resided for many years. On January 11, 1899, she was united in marriage to Fred L. Armstrong and she has resided in Cherry Valley since that time.
Mrs. Armstrong possessed a very pleasing personality, always gracious and charming. In her home she was a kind and loving wife and a very devoted mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the bereaved family. Mrs. Armstrong held a life-membership in the D.A.R. and was treasurer at the time of her death. She was a member of the Cherry Valley Woman's club. She was also one of the trustees of the library for about thirteen years. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Dakin of Trumansburg; one granddaughter, Miss Ellen Dakin; her father, James Morrell Bennett of Milford; one sister, Mrs. Stella Brazeau, Port Washington, L.I.; by three brothers: Perry Bennett of Milford, Fred Bennett of Amsterdam, and Earl Bennett of Cherry Valley.
The funeral services were held from her late residence on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Cecil B. Plumb, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. She was laid to rest in the Milford Cemetery.
